Description: A metal vaginal speculum is used to move the vaginal walls apart to expose the cervix. Cells from the cervix are obtained using a wooden spatula and a cytobrush or by using a cervical broom (PapetteĀ®). A microscope is used to examine the cells and detect cells that are precancerous or cancerous.
