| Description: The tympanic membrane is red and inflamed. There is dullness with no light reflex. There is a loss of normal landmarks (visibility of the malleus), and the entire tympanic membrane bulges out into the external auditory canal. Fluid from an effusion in the middle ear creates an air-fluid level that can be seen through the tympanic membrane.
