Description: Most helium nuclei (originally called alpha particles) entering a thin foil scatter slightly as they pass through the medium, but some
scatter backward, indicating that they have encountered very dense, compact objects. Such experiments were the
first evidence that most matter is concentrated in what are now called atomic nuclei.
