The Mid-Atlantic Ridge

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: This artist’s rendition of the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean shows an unusual
mountain range in the middle of the ocean floor. Called the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, these
mountains are created by lava seeping up from Earth’s interior along a rift that extends from
Iceland to Antarctica. The black dots indicate locations of earthquakes.
