Description: Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 and Its Encounter with Jupiter (b) Shown here are visible (left) and ultraviolet (right) images of Jupiter taken by the Hubble Space Telescope after three pieces of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 struck the planet. Astronomers had expected white remnants (the color of condensing ammonia or water vapor); the darkness of the impact sites may have come from carbon compounds in the comet debris. Note the aurorae in the ultraviolet image Picture Stats: Views: 682 Filesize: 178.28kB Height: 681 Width: 1350 Source: https://biology-forums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=16339 |
