Structure of phospholipids
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Phospholipids contain both polar and nonpolar regions, making them amphipathic. The fatty acyl tails, formed from fatty acids, are the nonpolar region. The rest of the molecule is polar. In an aqueous environment phospholipids can form a bilayer with the hydrophobic tails facing the interior of the bilayer, away from the water.
