Description: This is a gram stain of Haemophilus influenza. Although it is the cause of many maladies, the flu in not one of them. It was isolated from a flu patient and it was thought that it caused the flu, but was later determined to be a secondary infection It is, however, a major cause of meningitis. Haemophilus influenzae type B (HiB) is a common cause of meningitis especially in infants. The HiB vaccine is given for immunity to this bacterium.
