streaking for isolation.
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: This type of streaking is called streaking for isolation. It is used to reduce the number of bacteria to a single cell.

A single bacterium will multiply over and over again into a colony that is visible to the naked eye. This method is used to ensure a pure colony that we can work with and run tests on.

If we try to run tests on a mixed colony, you would get mixed results and not be able to identify the species of bacteria you have.
