Description: This is another flagellate called Trypanosoma brucei. It is the causative agent of African sleeping sickness. It is transmitted by the tse tse fly.Notice the elongated cells between the erythrocytes.

Another species in this genus is the cause of Chaga’s disease. Chaga’s disease is transmitted by the kissing bug. This insect is drawn to the carbon dioxide that is breathed out during respiration. When it bites it defecates. The victim of its bite slaps at it smearing the feces it has deposited into the bite wound.
