Description:  If we wanted to test whether humor causes a reduction in stress, we would first need to randomly assign people in our sample to either the experimental or control condition, perhaps by the flip of a coin. The dependent variable, the stress levels, would be measured following exposure to either humorous or neutral material. To test whether the hypothesis is true, the average stress scores in both groups would be compared. Hypothesis: Humor causes a reduction in stress.
