Acquisition, Extinction, and Spontaneous Recovery
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Acquisition of a conditioned response occurs over repeated pairings of the CS and the US. If the US no longer occurs, conditioned responding diminishes—a process called extinction. Often, following a time interval in which the CS does not occur, conditioned responding rebounds when the CS is presented again—a phenomenon called spontaneous recovery.
