Description: Procedures for testing whether a therapy has empirical support, and therefore is a viable option to offer to clients, requires rigorous procedures and scrutiny as diagrammed below. Critical to this process is random assignment of each participant to the treatment or placebo groups, double-blind procedures, and statistical comparisons to determine whether the new proposed therapy is superior to no treatment, and also, if possible, to a standard therapy that already has established empirical support.
