Structure of a chloroplast
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Like a mitochondrion, a chloroplast is enclosed in a double membrane. In addition, it has an internal thylakoid membrane system that forms flattened compartments. These compartments stack on each other to form grana. The stroma is located inside the inner membrane but outside the thylakoid membrane. The transmission electron micrograph is a colorized image of an embedded sectioned cell in a region with a chloroplast.
