Description: Immunofluorescent staining of pemphigus and pemphigoid diseases. Indirect immunofluorescent techniques detect (a) antidesmoglein antibody (associated with pemphigus vulgaris) and (b)antibodies against hemidesmosmal proteins (associated with bullous pemphigoid). (a) The intercellular staining pattern that is diagnostic for pemphigus vulgaris. (b) Linear deposition of antibodies along the dermal–epidermal junction is diagnostic for bullous pemphigoid.
