| Description: Serum protein electrophoresis gel of 10 sera. Lanes 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 9 show evidence of an "M" protein, indicating either a multiple myeloma or a macroglobulinemia. IgG myeloma proteins are generally found closer to the cathode than IgM macroglobulinemia proteins, which are generally closer to the cathode than IgA myeloma proteins. However, to determine isotype for clinical use, immunofixation electrophoresis is performed.
