Yoruba The Yoruba people have been known throughout history as prolific carvers. Olowe of Ise (c.1873–1938) was one of the most important Yoruba artists of the early twentieth century. He was a royal court carver. One of most well-known pieces is the figural column sequence of the king’s palace at Ikere.
