Description: Les Baugh had both of his arms amputated at the shoulder as a result of an electrical accident years ago. Working with researchers at Johns Hopkins University, he was able to control a pair of prosthetic arms using only his thoughts. Signals emanating from his brain allowed him to grasp and manipulate objects for the first time in 40 years. This type of research raises hope that “neural prosthetics” will one day help paralyzed and incapacitated people (Bouton et al., 2016).
