Description: In later stages of development, the primary oocyte is surrounded by several layers of cuboidal and low-columnar cells (granulosa cells). The glycoprotein zona pellucida forms between the primary oocyte and the granulosa cells. As maturation continues, the primary follicle develops into a secondary follicle.
