Description: The cystic fibrosis protein is a membrane protein. The CFTR protein is located in the plasma membrane of the cell and regulates the movement of chloride ions and water across the cell membrane. The regulatory region controls the activity of the CFTR molecule in response to signals from inside the cell. In most cases (about 70%), the protein is defective in binding region 1.
