Description: BOX 34—1 Inadequate Airway, Breathing and Circulation in theTrauma Patient: Manifestations and Immediate Interventions (Cont) Breathing Signs and symptoms: Rate, rhythm, or depth outside of normal parameters Absent or diminished breath sounds Abnormal breathing sounds, such as gurgling, crowing, gasplng Cyanosis Use of accessory respiratory muscles Hypoxemia, hypercapnia Potential immediate inten/entions: Apply oxygen at high—flow (usually 100%) Inspect for signs of chest trauma Position on side after neck is stabilized Positive pressure ventilation (e.g., bag-valve mask with manual ventilation; intubation, mechanical ventilation) Rescue breathing if respiratow arrest
