Description: Dividing cells progress through a series of stages denoted G1, S, G2, and M phases. This diagram shows the progression of a cell through the cell cycle to produce two daughter cells. The original diploid cell had three pairs of chromosomes, for a total of six individual chromosomes. During S phase, these have replicated to yield 12 chromatids. After mitosis is complete, each of the two daughter cells contains a complete genetic complement of six chromosomes (two pairs of three chromosomes)
