Deciphering the genetic code with synthetic mini- mRNAs
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: A synthetic mini-mRNA GUC is attached to a ribosome and exposed to 19 tRNAs carrying 19 unlabeled amino acids and a 14C-labeled valine (Val). The 14C-labeled valine tRNA hybridizes to the GUC mini-mRNA within the ribosome. The mRNA–ribosome–tRNA complex is caught by the filter membrane, where radioactivity is detected. The unbound tRNAs wash through the membrane
