Description: In this example, both the mother and the father are heterozygous (Aa) for a mutated gene (a) that is recessive, such as the one responsible for sickle cell disease. When both parents are carriers of a gene mutation, each child they have will have a 25% chance of inheriting the two mutated genes (aa) and therefore manifesting a recessive disease.
