Exposure pathways
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: An exposure point, drums, is located on the ground. This leads to 3 exposure pathways, as follows.

It goes up into the area via the release mechanism, volatization, into the environmental medium, the air, and the prevailing wind direction blows it to the exposure point, where is absorbed into people using the exposure route, inhalation.

It also goes into the soil via the release mechanism, a spill, into the environmental medium, the soil, to the exposure point, the food chain, where it is absorbed into people using the exposure route, ingestion. It is also absorbed into a second environmental medium, soil gas, where it goes up into a house at another exposure point.

It also goes into the water via the release mechanism, leaching, into the environmental medium, the water at the water table, to the exposure point by following the groundwater flow, where it is absorbed into people using the exposure route, ingestion.
