Description: All three hypnograms show the brain waves by the number of hours spent asleep. Children quickly drop off from awake to n r e m sleep and stay there until just before hour 2, when the waves spike back up to awake, and then drop back into n r e m at about 2.5 hours. From there, it goes in 3 more cycles from n r e m to r e m in about 1.5 hour increments. Young adults also quickly drop off from awake to n r e m, but stay for only a short period, before quickly going back to r e m. From there, it goes in cycles that go from N 3 to r e m in about 1.5 hour increments. Older adults take longer to fall asleep and do not never hit n r e m, and only hit N 3 stage once. The waves oscillate in 1 hour increments from about N 2 to awake over 10 times.
