Chloride and bicarbonate exchange in the renal tubules and effect of aldosterone on excretion of H+
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Chloride and bicarbonate exchange in the renal tubules and effect of aldosterone on excretion of H+. In the distal tubule and collecting duct, bicarbonate secretion into the urine is coupled to chloride resorption. Aldosterone causes sodium resorption in exchange for H+ and K+ secretion into the renal tubular lumen.

In a distal tube, bicarbonate enters and chloride exits. Aldosterone is caused by sodium exiting the tube and hydrogen and potassium entering.
