Description: The diagram is a spectrum. On the right side is where ionizing and nonionizing meet. To the right is ionizing. From the meeting point to the right is ultraviolet, which comes from tanning booths, as well as x rays and gamma rays, which come from x rays. The effects of these is broken bonds and damaged D N A. To the left is the nonionizing. From the meeting point left is visible light, infrared, microwave, radio, and extremely low frequency radiation. Infrared comes from heat lamps and causes optical effects, such as exciting electrons and photochemical reactions. Microwaves come from microwaves, F M radios, and the T V, and causes thermal effects, such as inducing high currents and heating. Radio waves come from A M and F M radios. Extremely low frequency waves come from power lines and static fields. They cause nonthermal effects such as inducing low currents and other possible unknown effects.
