The process of phagocytosis

The process of phagocytosis
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: The process starts with recognition of a pathogen to be destroyed, which is followed by initial signaling from the cell surface. The pathogen is engulfed by the leukocyte, which once fully engulfed, creates phagosomes. Then signaling is facilitated by membrane receptor recruitment to the formatting phagosome. After that, signaling is regulated by phagosome maturation. Then, the pathogen is degraded or killed by the inflammatory response in the nuclear, leading to recruitment and activation of other cells, or antigen presentation
