Description: Some phages, such as phage ?, may follow either a lytic or a lysogenic reproductive cycle. During the lytic cycle, new phages are made and the bacterial cell is destroyed. During the lysogenic cycle, the integrated phage DNA, or prophage, is replicated along with the DNA of the host cell. Environmental conditions influence how long the phage remains in the lysogenic cycle. Other phages, such as T2, follow only lytic cycles.
