Description: Lumbar puncture. Abbreviated LP, the lumbar puncture is a common procedure that withdraws cerebrospinal fluid from the lumbar region of the spinal canal for examination. Between vertebrae L4 and L5, the needle is pushed through the dura mater to enter the subarachnoid space and CSF circulation.
