Working class (blue collar) women are generally found to more accepting of male
leadership, more traditional, and less likely to be community leaders than middle class
women.
Membership in traditional social organizations of school, church, etc. is not generally
regarded as training ground for wider and more complicated organizations. However, the
very fact of danger and threat into the comfort and safety of the community, which in turn
casts a gray pall over the comfort and safety of the home and family, seemed in this article
to be a catalyst for challenge and change. Lack of education and status was not a deterrent
to these women, who had gained confidence in each other through familiarity found in their
social organizations.
