Answer to Question 1

T

Answer to Question 2

Essays will touch on membership in other organizations (name or describe) and personal
resources (name or describe) that were brought to bear on the problems under scrutiny. The
skills they used or observed being used in other situations were transferred to the Mothers'
Club. This organization allowed women to further develop their abilities and realize the
scope of possibilities in their own personal repertoire and networks. These resources and
social networks were invaluable in mobilizing the community. Some students will also refer
to concepts garnered from other readings, such as kinwork skills, domains of authority and
spheres of household/community work, socio-economic and gender factors. The way skill
was used to include men, and other more reluctant members may be addressed. Females
emerged from private margins of volunteer work to public light. Some mention may be
made about the links between community, social and political needs, and traditional
concepts of motherhood, including non-mothers with altruistic and caring attitudes.
The implication for social movements among working class women/men is that there must
be a needs focus, encouragement from leaders in established social groups toward potential
leaders, recognition of personal skills, inclusion of whole families, linking of family and
community, and commitment to labor intensive work of mobilizing people at the grassroots
level, as well as a formal well-paid lobbyist (at least in this case).
