This questions is designed to cause the student to integrate new explanations of Black family
organization with purely contextual explanations of socio-economic status and the effects of
slavery, the class vs. culture arguments. The second part should elicit responses that
challenge the student's ability to analyze professional material, and will cover such topics as
theory, reliability of research, authenticity of the arguments, etc. The scope will depend
largely on the leadership of the instructor.
