Answer to Question 1

A profile for typical sleep patterns includes spending more time in bed than in earlier
years, taking a long time to fall asleep, waking often, taking naps, and feeling
drowsy during the day. Ways that older adults could compensate for their changing
sleep patterns include avoiding naps, reducing time lying awake in bed,
compressing their nightly sleep time, and realizing that changing sleep patterns
occurs naturally with age.

Answer to Question 2

The four factors are technology, specialist care, personal determination, and
personal and/or cultural accommodation. Students should provide an example of
each.
