Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary. Students will probably mention computers and related
technological changes as distinguishing features of their own experience and that of
the upcoming generation. Other recent changes include wider availability of
preschool and after-school programs, which add up to more time spent away from
home, and the various toys and programs aimed at teaching infants. Examples
chosen are less important than that students demonstrate an understanding of what
constitutes a cohort difference and of how such differences might affect learning.

Answer to Question 2

Answers will vary and should identify qualitative differences between the expert
and novice, such as more intuitive, more automatic, more strategic, and more
flexible.
