Answer to Question 1

Starting in their 20s, some people experience difficulty seeing objects at a distance,
so they become nearsighted. In the 40s, the lens of the eye becomes less elastic
and the cornea flattens, causing difficulty seeing objects that are close, so some
become farsighted. Hearing begins to decrease very slowly during adulthood with
the majority of men and women able to pass the whisper test. Hearing loss is
typically unnoticeable until late adulthood.

Answer to Question 2

Answers will vary, but students should demonstrate an understanding that QALYs
involve all four measures of health and that one QALY is given for each perfectly
healthy year.
