Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary, but ethical experiments are ones that will ensure that the subjects
will not be harmed by the research process and participation is voluntary and
confidential. Unethical experiments would involve violation of any of these
conditions. One that would be difficult to evaluate would be a study in which there is
some potential for harm but also one where there are potential benefits as well (e.g.,
effects of particular medicines or therapies).

Answer to Question 2

When involving children in research, experimenters must ensure that the subjects
are not harmed, participation is voluntary, children and parents are informed about
what will occur, and all information is kept confidential.
