Answer to Question 2

At 5 to 6 weeks, both the internal and external genitals resemble primitive female structures. By about the 7th week, the genetic code (XY for mal, XX for females) begins to asset itself, causing sex organs to differentiate. Genetic activity on the Y sex chromosome causes the testes to begin to differentiate. The ovaries begin to differentiate if the Y chromosome is absent. By about 4 months after conception, males and females show distinct external genital structures. Once the testes have developed in the embryo, they begin to produce male sex hormones, or androgens, the most important of which his testosterone.
