Answer to Question 1

According to social cognitive theories of gender development, reinforcement, imitation, and, eventually, self-regulation all play a strong role in producing sex-typed behaviors. An important factor influencing the likelihood of imitation is the sex typicality of the model's behaviorthat is, how characteristic the behavior is of the model's own sex. Research shows that children are more likely to imitate same-sex than other-sex models and that self-regulation of sex-typed behaviors increases with development.
