An identity crisis is a period of doubt and crises concerning one's definition of self and the role of said self in society. Adolescents are increasingly able to view themselves as independent of others and their actions and conduct as personal. This new independence and separation naturally leads to some confusion of identity as a more dependent sense of identity is shed.
