Answer to Question 1

Children react more positively to groups to which they belong. In an experiment with two infants, one from France and one from the United States, the infants heard two speakers, one talking in French and the other in English. When the exact same toy was silently proffered by both speakers, the infants were shown to be inclined to reach for the toy from the speaker of their native language.
