Marcus was a good student. As an African American, Marcus also knew that other people wouldnt automatically expect him to be a good student. When Marcus took testseven though he knew his material and knew from experience that he would do wellhe nevertheless felt some pressure from what other people thought. How can the stereotype threat result in lower performance by ethnic minorities?

Answer: The stereotype threat may result in lower performance by ethnic minorities by triggering an excessive load on working memory under conditions where the stereotype is salient.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The two most important factors are having a positive teacher-student relationship and being exposed to challenging material that is relevant to students lives.
