Answer to Question 1

Intersensory redundancy refers to the fact that infants' sensory systems are attuned to information presented simultaneously to different sensory modes. Infants are more likely to attend to information that is presented in multiple senses. When an infant sees and hears the mother clapping (visual and auditory information), he focuses on the information conveyed to both senses and pays less attention to information that is only available in one sense, such as the color of the mother's nail polish. This information is useful to parents because learning will occur faster when information is presented in multiple sensory modes.
