Answer to Question 1

B

Answer to Question 2

Marriage has become less a matter of the sacred and more a matter of individuality. As the significance of religion in Western cultures lessened throughout the 19th century, divorce rates began to slowly rise. Because religion is increasingly absent in the institution of marriage, marriage has undergone a shift from a covenant (binding) union to a union of individual choice. This desacralization of marriage has been a significant factor in Western societies' accepting a temporary nature of marriage, as opposed to a till death do us part concept of marriage.
