Answer to Question 1

The student should indicate that common STDs include HIV, hepatitis B, herpes, human papilloma virus, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and parasite infections. The most common is chlamydia, and about two-thirds of STDs occur among people under age 25. Because many STDs cause no symptoms, partners may unwittingly pass them along, even if they are in monogamous relationships. Having sex with someone means having sex with every one of his/her previous sexual partners for the last 10 years.
