Answer: The ideal answer should include:
1. The tenebrism used by the artist makes use of large areas of dark contrasting sharply with smaller areas of bright light.
2. The tenebrist effects are achieved by showing a strong spotlight from an artificial source.
3. The artist shows a shadow over Judith's face, cast by her outstretched hand.
4. These techniques produce the drama, display of power, and heroic tone appropriate for this biblical story of a widow who saved her people.

Answer: The restoration revealed that Michelangelo used intense, saturated colors that had been dulled by dirt.
