The poster was designed to communicate essential information across language barriers to international travelers, by employing symbols that were universally recognizable images to direct travelers to transportation, communication, lodging, and other key facilities.

Answer to Question 2

La Goulue at the Moulin Rouge was created in the 19th century using a color lithograph process. Toulouse-Lautrec created the poster to advertise a particular cabaret and employed the flattened, simplified forms related to Japanese prints to illustrate the featured performer.
