Answer to Question 1

D
Double the final consonant if the base word ends in w or x is not a rule to follow when
adding an ending to a word. Knowing when to double a final consonant before adding an
ending to a word is a matter of distinguishing between vowel sounds.

Answer to Question 2

B
Warranties is the correct spelling of the plural form of the common noun warranty. The
spelling of plurals of some common nouns that end in y depends on whether the y is
preceded by a consonant or a vowel. If y is preceded by a consonant, change y to i and
add es.
