With regards to structural-functionalism, compare/contrast the concepts of instrumental role and expressive role.

Answer to Question 1

Instrumental roles are assigned to the husband-father, who, as the task-oriented mate, holds responsibility for being the primary breadwinner and protector against imbalance or disequilibrium. The wife-mother is assigned expressive roles, responsible for enhancing emotional relationships among the members of the family.
