As with other development, parents play an important role in their children's sexual socialization. Ideally, parents (or guardians) should be the first and best sex educators because they're experienced and have their children's interests at heart. When parents are effective sex educators, there are a number of positive adolescent outcomes. Sexual knowledge, in particular, delays first-time sexual intercourse, lowers sexually risky behavior, decreases the number of unwanted pregnancies, and increases control over one's sexual behavior.
